Fliss (Felicity) Corp

was a much-loved and well-known member of our community. She cared deeply about village life and generously gave her time to many local activities. Fliss was particularly concerned about the lack of affordable housing for young people.

We are honoured to have received a generous legacy from her estate and, in her memory, are launching Felicity’s Fund.

Legacies given to the Trust, including Felicity’s, will be set aside to accumulate over time, giving the Community Land Trust the ability to act quickly when opportunities arise.

To give just an example:

·      £10,000 could buy the freehold of a small piece of land

·      or cover the additional cost of building quality homes resulting in permanently low energy bills

Why this matters

Most of us hope that after our death some or all of what we leave behind can support causes we care deeply about.

Our area is special, but rising house prices are making it increasingly difficult for local people to stay. Young families, key workers, and people who grew up here are being priced out of the place they call home.

By leaving a gift in your Will to Nadder Community Land Trust, you can help ensure that local people will always have the opportunity to live in the Nadder Valley.

As a small, independent Community Land Trust, we rely heavily on volunteers. Our day-to-day running costs are largely covered by our 200 Club, and legacies play a vital role in enabling us to act when opportunities arise.

how to leave a gift in your will

Leaving a charitable gift in your Will is simpler than you might think.

1. Include NCLT’s details

To ensure your gift reaches us, please include the following information:

·      Name: Nadder Community Land Trust

·      Address: The Reading Room, High Street, Tisbury, SP3 6LD

·      Registration Number: 8083 (Community Benefit Society)

2. Choose the type of gift you wish to leave

There are three common ways of leaving a gift to charity in your Will:

·      Residuary gift
A share or percentage of your estate after other gifts and expenses have been paid. This type of gift grows as the value of your estate grows.

·      Pecuniary gift
A fixed sum of money. This can be index-linked to maintain its value over time.

·      Specific gift
A particular item or asset, such as property, shares, or a valued possession.

3. A tax-effective way to give

If your estate exceeds the Inheritance Tax threshold (currently £325,000 for 2025/26), it may be liable for tax.
However, all charitable gifts are exempt from Inheritance Tax.

Nadder Community Land Trust is a Community Benefit Society* and is recognised as a charity by HM Revenue & Customs, meaning your gift will qualify for full tax exemption.

4. Create or update your Will

You can make or amend your Will with any practising solicitor, who will be able to advise you on the most suitable way to include a charitable gift.

*In England and Wales, a charitable Community Benefit Society enjoys the same tax benefits as a registered charity and is recognised by HMRC (ref ZD07068) but is regulated by the FCA (Mutuals Register no. 8083) rather than the Charity Commission.
